As the new Principal of Hamilton College, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to our school, and to my Blog. This Blog will, I hope, point you to news about what is happening here at Hamilton College, and also offer some of my thoughts, musings, and experiences as the Principal of a unique and wonderful school community.
As a 3-18 non-denominational Christian independent school, we are committed not only to excellence in the academic development of our pupils, but to caring individually for each child by offering first rate pastoral care and life-affirming experiences which encourage pupils to develop their existing strengths and talents, while trying something different.
There are a wealth of superb opportunities at Hamilton College; from the academic, to the sporting, creative, and spiritual dimensions of school life, we want to draw the best from every child. The idea behind this broad educational experience is that pupils are encouraged to become well-rounded citizens who achieve excellent personal academic results, while realising they are part of a wider local, national and international community.
Our campus on the outskirts of Hamilton sits in several acres of land, benefiting from amazing views over the Clyde Valley. It offers a countryside setting, while being a stone’s throw from all the fabulous facilities of the city of Glasgow: the ideal place for all kinds of trips and educational experiences.
Through our supportive Christian ethos, we encourage pupils to be good citizens in a positive spirit of acceptance. We are a unique and unusual school. A school that cares. A school that strives to get the best from everyone. A school which dares to be different.
Since my appointment as Principal, I have witnessed a sincerely familial community spirit, and I have been extended the warmest of welcomes. When you come to visit us, you will witness pleasant, polite children and young people who want to do well and to look out for one another, and staff who go the extra mile to do everything they can to help our pupils develop. That has been my experience so far, and I am certain you will feel the same. Of course, the best way to know all this is to experience it for yourself by visiting the school. We look forward to seeing you here at Hamilton College!
