I spent this afternoon with our Head of English, Mr Hotchkiss, at the Rotary International Youth Speaks 2015 West of Scotland Public speaking competition in Pollokshaws Burgh Hall. The event was incredibly well attended and showed the public speaking talents of various schools from around the West of Scotland. There were a variety of topics ranging from technology to feminism, to the Hamilton College topic, 'Who's Afraid of the Big bad Wolf', which considered the ecological reasons for the reintroduction of Wolves to Scotland's wildlife. The team spoke incredibly well, and although in the end we were not the victors, the girls spoke superbly, with confidence and grace, and with a knowledgeable prowess that many of the other teams were lacking. But then, I'm biased... Sincere congratulations to Kimberley Tochel, Phoebe Shirazi, Eva Neill, and their coach Mr Hotchkiss, for a superb effort this afternoon. |
