Firstly, a video about that dress that everyone was talking about a couple of weeks ago.
Then there was a remarkable story from Havana in recent Associated Press coverage:
The English teacher part of me couldn't resist showing the famous scene from the old film of 'To Kill and Mockingbird', in which Atticus encourages Scout to 'walk around in someone else's skin'...
Whether it is how we see the dress, the point of view we have from a certain angle (in the bicycle example) or Atticus' lesson to Scout, the point is that things often look different from another angle. We should always try to understand other people, allowing God to guide us in our empathy, our consideration, and our wisdom. That applies whether it's to do with enjoying a beginner playing in a concert, whether it's pupils learning to play together in the playground, passing a homeless person without thought or consideration, or acting on something when we see it isn't right.
Jeremiah 29:11 tells us;
“I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
This knowledge allows us to broaden our vision, to 'see ourselves as others see us', and reduces the worry and concern in life that can cloud our vision or complicate things. When we do our best and trust in the Lord to give us the vision he wants and to guide us in the right direction, there is no need to fret.
Now there's a different perspective on things...
