As we look forward to Prizegiving, there are so many things happening it is difficult to keep up.
- Both Sports Days last week were blessed by superb weather (and this is the West of Scotland!), great ice cream, and, most importantly, some impressively skilled sporting abilities. The races were swift, and the medals were many. Both Junior School and Senior School Sports Days were a roaring success.
- The piano concert last week by Alex Stier gave a pre-emptive sense of excitement about the Summer Tour concert, which is tonight, and which precedes the Music Tour to Belgium next week. We look forward to hearing all about this fabulous trip to one of my favourite countries in the world.
- Then there was the fabulous accomplishment of Sarah in S6, receiving a commendation on Friday afternoon at the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians in Glasgow. I was honoured to attend the awards of the Scottish Schools Young Writer of the Year Award with Mr Hotchkiss, and was particularly proud of see one of our pupils receive a Commendation from over 200 entries.
- Our Classicists have done well, too, with many pupils (more than any other school in Scotland) receiving awards in the Gilbert Murray Essay Prize. Three of the four prizes awarded in S1 and S2 went to Hamilton College pupils. Wow!
- Then there was the remarkable Speech and Drama celebration last week following outstanding results in the Victoria Exams - over 70 pupils, many of whom received 100%, and most of whom received over 90%. To see a 4 or 5 year old stand up and confidently recite a poem or a monologue... what a joy!
- Then, as I write this, and following our outstanding art and photography erxhibitions last week, I receive the following email from Mr Wilson, our Head of Art... 'Just received an email to say we’ve picked up four gold medals and a silver at the Glasgow Museums Annual Art Competition, the oldest and most prestigious in Scotland. We also may have some highly commended but they are not out yet! It’s a big deal with ceremony at the kelvingrove and press usually there in early oct. We’ve been doing really well in this since we started going to it about seven years ago.'
.......... the successes just keep rolling. Phew! Exciting times.
